UT cultural interviews from Latin America
Description:
This website provides a compilation of over 200 brief video clips in which Latin American and Spanish executives discuss cultural issues such as: Negotiation, Language, Social Situations, Time & Schedules, and Spain Interviews . Over 50 native Spanish speaking professionals offer their opinion on different questions.
Activity Ideas:
Interpretive: Students watch the different videos and fill in the names of people next to various statements such as: she hates cellphones or he thinks Americans... Also, after viewing the video “06 Knowing What Clothes to Wear” students fill out a chart comparing clothing from different countries.
Interpersonal: After viewing the video, students are put in groups of two, one will assume the role of the person they just saw and the other will ask two follow-up questions based on the interview they just saw. They would then switch places.
Presentational: Students can use a site like Flipgrid to record their own interview responses to the same questions about their culture.
Everyday Life Cultural Videos
Description:
Videos focus on practical aspects of everyday life in Spain, Mexico, Argentina, Nicaragua, & Ecuador. Some cultural information is out-of-date, but many of the videos remain linguistically useful. Transcripts and translations are provided.

Description:
A video collection focusing on Ecuador with topics ranging from architecture to travel to the food market.
Activity Ideas:
Activities based on “Images of Otavalo” –food market & animal market videos
Interpretive: Students create a shopping list based on items they see in the video. This activity could also be expanded and students could find recipes, watch the video and determine which of the ingredients they could buy in the market.
Interpersonal: Students set up a market in class where some students serve as buyers and other students serve as sellers. Students can use the list they have made during the interpretive activity to “purchase” those items.
Presentational: Create the narration to go along with one of the videos.

Voces de Princeton
Description:
This site offers a wonderful collection of interviews with native and heritage speakers as well as Spanish Learners at Princeton University. Speakers can be filtered by topic, age, country of origin, role at the university and more. More than one hundred fifty different topics include culture, typical day, personality/identity, plans for the future, and opinions. Videos can be downloaded and a transcript is provided.
Activity Ideas:
Interpretive: Students can fill out a chart with similarities and differences between native speakers from different countries.
Interpersonal: Students can interview each other about some of the same topics provided on the website.
Presentational: Students could select a speaker and write or present a brief biography about that person’s experiences and current living situation.

Among the many resources on this site, are several videos that offer perspectives and opinions from Spanish-speakers from all over the world.
Interpretive: Students visit the "sucesos" section, read about a cultural aspect, take the little quiz there, taking notes on the questions and answers.
Interpersonal: After taking the quiz on the subject, students create a short summary of the information that they will "teach" to a classmate. They then give the same quiz orally to a classmate, explaining any incorrect responses.
Presentational: Students watch one of the videos in the "voces" section, write down the interview questions they think may have been asked. They will then make their own video in a similar style to the ones seen there, answering the same questions.
