Below are some of our favorite videos focused on fine arts. In this section, students can gain access to film clips in Spanish and some famous works presented in a virtual art museum. We have also provided Standards-based activity ideas to help teachers more easily incorporate their use in the classroom.

Description:

This site allows students to fill in the gaps in the lyrics of over 100 songs from all different Spanish-speaking countries.  Students are able to choose 4 different levels of difficulty.

Activity Ideas:

Interpretive: Students create their own lyrics training song for a partner using a children's song they know (but in Spanish) from a provided list. They will then blank out certain words. Just like the site they could blank out fewer blanks for beginning level and more blanks for a more advanced level. They will then hand their blanked out version of the song to their partner and either sing it or pull up the accompanying link and have their partner listen. Also, the class can be divided into two teams and have a competition as to which team can fill in the lyrics more quickly or with a higher score (given by the website).

Interpersonal: Song lyrics are cut up into lines and the words that fill in those lines. Students are put into groups of 3. One student pulls out a line from a song with a blank where the word should be filled in. The other two students have to compete against each other to find the correct word to place in the blank. For example, from the song “Vivir mi vida”, a student would pull out the line “Yo ____ mi música y ___ sonrisa” and the other two students would have to find “soy” and “tu” to fill in the blanks. They would then rotate and a different student would pull out another line. An example of scaffolding could be to add the number of letters in the blank.

Presentational: Students can create a picture dictionary for 8 new words found in the lyrics. Also, after listening to a song found on lyrics training, students have to complete the following exit ticket: Escuché una canción de ____ (lugar) que es ____ (adjetivo de tu opinión).

Description:

A wonderful collection of music videos categorized by country.

Activity Ideas:

Interpretive: Students listen to/watch one of the music videos linked to the site and write a one-paragraph summary of what the song is about.

Interpersonal: Students receive the lyrics to 3 or 4 different songs linked to this site. With a partner, they will watch those 3-4 videos with no sound. They have to try to match the lyrics to the music video based on what they have viewed. They can then check to see if they are right by playing the videos with sound.

Presentational: Students will both draw comparisons and point out contrasts between one of the music videos linked to this site and a music video they are familiar with in English. They will present (in Spanish) these similarities and differences to the class providing examples as they go.

Hola Qué Pasa

Description:

This site has movie and TV Series trailers in Spanish along with a wonderful written description of each and accompanying audio file.  This site also provides information as to level of difficulty.

Activity Ideas:

Interpretive: Students watch two to three movie trailers, answer questions about them and compare them based on several categories such as: genre, characters shown, etc.

Interpersonal: Students are assigned to each watch two movie trailers. Afterward, they must pair up with a partner who has watched the same two. At random the teacher will give them one of the two movie trailers and they must spontaneously do a movie review in a similar style to “Ebert & Roeper”. They will give the movie a “voto positivo” or a “voto negativo”.

Presentational: Students could make a movie trailer of a biography about their life. They would include highlights of big events, a cast of characters and important details. Afterward, either that student or another student could write a critique of the movie based on the trailer.
