En casa contigo

Description:

A series of ideas and how-to videos about: cooking, craft-making, beauty, health and well-being. The narrators speak clearly and at a reasonable pace for Spanish language learners.

Activity Ideas:

Activities based on the video  “Receta de Croquetas super rápidas en solo 10 minutos”

Interpretive: The teacher starts the video at 55 seconds in and students can make a list of ingredients that she adds to the croquetas. Students also need to identify kitchen utensils and equipment used by the narrator. They can put the cooking steps in order. As an alternate activity, students will receive an envelope containing the ingredients to a croqueta including some unnecessary ingredients. While listening to her description, students need to select the appropriate ingredients and place them on a paper frying pan. Then, the teacher can play the video from the beginning to check their list of ingredients.

Interpersonal: One student would be at the front with a copy of a complete recipe for croquetas. The other students will receive either an ingredient or a part of the instructions. Working both individually and in their group, Students would need to ask yes or no questions of the student in front to figure out how to reassemble the recipe. For example, “¿Hay huevos en las croquetas?” (“Are there eggs in croquetas?”) or “¿Hay 5 ingredientes en las croquetas?” (“Are there 5 ingredients in the croquetas?”)

Presentational: Students can create a cooking video in the target language using a recipe from the target culture. They can incorporate command forms, present progressive or other grammatical structures.

Web Spanish Videos

Description:

These videos feature short interviews and interactions with native Spanish speakers, mostly in Lima, Perú. Videos are intentionally spontaneous and practical to help students see "real life" and real social interactions in a Spanish-speaking country.

Activity Ideas:

Activities based on the video "Instrumentos musicales peruanos"
Interpretive: Students view pictures of the instruments and label them while viewing. Then the teacher would play the second half of video which shows the words so they can check their own spelling. Then, afterward they group the instruments according to pitch, material or how it's played (with mouth, hands, etc)

Interpersonal: Students then watch the video one more time and fill out a chart to rank the instruments (according to their opinion). Then, individually they need to decide on three of the instruments they would want to use in their own Peruvian band. Then, students pair up and decide on four instruments they would have, while negotiating with their partner on which instruments are most interesting, best sounding, etc.

Presentational: Students create a CD cover for their quartet they have previously created. They must include biography information on group members, instruments and names of songs.
